This week the children learned a new color word, orange. They can now recognize the color words red, blue, yellow, green, and orange. Singing the song for each color helps them recognize and remember the spelling of each word.
They also discussed their sense of smell, and how our noses help them breathe as well as smell. They also learned that their sense of smell affects their sense of taste, and when they have a cold, they may not feel like or enjoy eating. They also brainstormed smells that they like and ones they don't, and they realized that certain smells remind them of certain people or things. They also used their sense of sight to see and remember things that are part of the Fall season.
They continue to work on making and extending more complicated patterns on paper as well as with manipulatives. They also are beginning to understand what graphs are and why we use them. We made an eye color graph, and we found out that more children in our class had brown eyes than any other color!
Writing center continues to expand as the children are becoming more comfortable writing the sounds they hear in each word they want to write.
Hebrew/JS
The children created a museum for Sukkot and enjoyed playing in our Sukkah in the activity room. They learned about the Lulav and Etrog and what the Sukkah represents. They continued learning words with the letter Bet (B'gadim and Banana), and the children practiced all of the Hebrew letters that we have learned thus far. They practiced the Hebrew words for the colors red, blue, yellow and green (Adom, Kachol, Tzahov and Yarok).
