Our focus this week has been on the color word BLUE and triangles. The children learned another song to help them remember the spelling of the word blue, and they have done many projects with paint, clay, and crayons to reinforce this skill. They have also brainstormed things that are shaped like a triangle and drawn their own triangle-shaped items. The children decorated a cover for their yearbook which will go home in June. Each month they will illustrate a page that represents a highlight during that month, and this week the children illustrated their September page.
They also decorated a cover for their Numbers Book as they begin learning how to write the numbers 1-10. They also practiced forming the letters correctly as they used their fingers to write on each other's backs. They even tried to make them with their bodies! They worked on number correspondence as well.
While all this was going on, our school was visited by a group called Bible Rap. These two young men mesmerized our kids as they rapped to biblical stories such as Cain and Abel. Each grade had a chance to work with them, and the children were all given the opportunity to come up front and perform with the singer and drummer. They were wonderful role models for our kids!
As always, they were playing, sharing, eating, drinking, reading with me, and making friends! Another wonderful week!
Hebrew Update:
This week in Hebrew we finished up the letter Shin and began learning the letter Tav. We learned how to write the letter and also a few vocabulary words with Tav (Tapooach= apple, Torah, T'filah = prayer)
In Jewish Studies, we began talking about the upcoming holiday of Rosh Hashana. We talked about what our birthday wish for the world might be. The kindergartners wish for peace, happiness and health for the world. We read some stories and also are making a book about the holiday which will be completed next week. We sang a new Hebrew song about apples and honey (Tapoochim UD'vash).
We learned about Tashlich, the time when Jewish people go to the water to throw away their "sorries". We will be going to the beach next Tuesday with the First Graders forTashlich. Check your child's backpack for further information about it.
We began learning Torah and our first story was called Tohu VaVohu, what the world was like before Hashem created it. The photograph below shows the Kindergartner's interpretations of what the world might have looked like then.
It was another very busy week!
Shana Tova and Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Beth
