Well, we may have lost a lot of time this week because of the blizzard, but we made up for it here in kindergarten with quality rather than quantity!
On Monday, in keeping with the letter P, the children learned about a new artist, Pablo Picasso. They listened to his life story which included his blue and rose periods, cubism, and his struggle to be himself and listen to his heart when he painted. Rather than paint like everyone else, Pablo decided to paint in his own style. The children loved his bizarre style of drawing and painting and his amazing pottery designs as well. They then proceeded to make their own kindergarten version of "The Three Musicians" using only shapes adding their own instruments. Check out the picture of the bulletin board in the hallway.
They also learned about penguins and their habits. They loved hearing that penguins are perfect parents, and the dad and mom share the work when it comes to taking care of the eggs and the chicks. We read books, both fact and fiction, about these delightful creatures as well. Ask your child if they remember one kind of penguin (hint: Emperor, Rock Hopper), and see if they can tell you the story of Tacky the Penguin.
As always, they were reading, writing, and doing math in their every day explorations as well as rehearsing for the upcoming Havdalah event next Saturday night, Feb. 7th.
